About us:

We are a theoretical research group funded within the Emmy Noether-program by the German Research Council (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft).

The main aim of the research is to study electromagnetic phenomena arising in metamaterials, a new class of artificial materials.

Here is a small selection of topics we are working on:

  • Properties of metamaterial elements (split ring resonators, swiss rolls, capacitive loops, rods,...);
  • Properties of slow magneto-inductive waves in metamaterials (due to coupling between the elements);
  • Applications of magneto-inductive waves as magnetic field manipulators, design of experiments and optimization of their properties;
  • Subwavelength imaging and the applicability of Poynting vector optics as a design aid;
  • Loading of metamaterial elements by nonlinear devices with the aim of realizing phase conjugation and frequency multiplication.Realization of current distributions in a metamaterial that may lead to superdirective radiation in the far, and possibly, in the near field;
